Active Set Identification without Derivatives

چکیده
We consider active set identification for linearly constrained optimization problems in the absence of explicit information about the derivative of the objective function. We focus on generating set search methods, a class of derivative-free direct search methods. We begin by presenting some general results on active set identification that are not tied to any particular algorithm. These general results are sufficiently strong that, given a sequence of iterates converging to a Karush–Kuhn– Tucker point, they allow us to identify binding constraints for which there are nonzero multipliers. We then discuss why these general results, which are posed in terms of the direction of steepest descent, apply to generating set search, even though these methods do not have explicit recourse to derivatives. Nevertheless, there is a clearly identifiable subsequence of iterations at which we can reliably estimate the set of constraints that are binding at a solution. We discuss how active set estimation can be used to accelerate generating set search methods and illustrate the appreciable improvement that can result using several examples from the CUTEr test suite. We also introduce two algorithmic refinements for generating set search methods. The first expands the subsequence of iterations at which we can make inferences about stationarity. The second is a more flexible step acceptance criterion.

متن کامل3D QSAR Studies of 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives as antimycobacterial agents
Recently several 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives were identified as potentially active antimycobacterial agents. Various 5-aryl-2-thio-1,3,4-oxadiazoles have been reported having good antimycobacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv (ATCC 27294). In this paper we report 3D QSAR studies for the 41 molecules of 1,3,4-oxadiazoles by using k-Nearest Neighbor Molecular Field Analysis...

متن کاملMolecular docking studies on xanthohumol derivatives as novel anticancer agents
A set of Xanthohumol derivatives were selected and molecular docking studies of these compounds on thioredoxin reductase were conducted. Based on new structural patterns using in silico-screening study, new potent lead compounds were designed. The results due to validated docking protocols lead to find that Thr58, Gly57, Gly21, Asp334, Glu163, Ala130, IIe332, Val44 and Gly132 are the main a...
متن کاملRobust Identification of Smart Foam Using Set Mem-bership Estimation in A Model Error Modeling Frame-work
The aim of this paper is robust identification of smart foam, as an electroacoustic transducer, considering unmodeled dynamics due to nonlinearities in behaviour at low frequencies and measurement noise at high frequencies as existent uncertainties. Set membership estimation combined with model error modelling technique is used where the approach is based on worst case scenario with unknown but...
